Cabinmate Requests
Here’s how they work, what we can promise, and why coming alone is always okay.
How requests work
Requests must be mutual
Both campers need to list each other. A one-sided request isn’t something we can honor, so make sure your camper’s friend submits their form too and that they’ve listed your camper back.
Campers must be within two grades of each other
We build cabins around age and grade, so campers more than two grades apart will be in different age groups regardless of a request. This one is important to keep cabin dynamics healthy for everyone.
That said, even two grades can sometimes be a stretch. A 4th grader and a 6th grader may be two grades apart on paper, but developmentally they’re often in pretty different places. And that matters for the whole cabin.
If we can’t honor a request because of age or grade, we’ll reach out directly as long as time allows.
Large friend groups are hard to keep together
When a big group of friends makes up more than half a cabin, it gets really hard for the other campers to feel included, even when your kids are genuinely welcoming. We’ve seen it happen with the kindest groups. So we limit requests to protect everyone in the cabin, not just the kids who already know each other. Our best advice: have each pair of friends request each other, and we’ll work from there.
Guarantees
A mutual request that meets all the criteria is something we take seriously and do our best to honor. It’s not a guarantee — cabin sizes are limited and we’re balancing a lot — but we take camper preferences seriously and do what we can.
Coming alone? You’re in good hands.
Many of our campers arrive not knowing a single person, and some of our closest camp friendships started exactly that way. Our counselors are intentional about building cabin community from day one, and we’ll make sure your camper feels at home.
We don’t share cabin assignments before camp
Campers find out their cabin when they arrive. We don’t send assignments ahead of time, so there’s no confirmation email coming. If your session is Color Wars or Harry Potter, that’s the exception: assignments go out early as part of how those programs run.
Questions? We’re happy to talk through it.
