We Love Camp Weekend
There are a lot of reasons to love camp. Most of them are people.
We Love Camp Weekend is a two-night overnight camp celebrating both. Kids spend the weekend with a cabin group, doing favorite camp activities, playing big games, eating meals together, and making new friends along the way.
And since it’s over Valentine’s Day, there will be hearts. There will be pink. There will be entirely too much love for camp.

We Really Love Camp
We’re not subtle about Valentine’s Day.
For one weekend, hearts show up all over Immokalee. Valentine’s Day finds its way into our games, programs, decorations, and whatever else our staff can reasonably turn pink.
But the thing we’re actually celebrating is camp and the people we share it with.
For returning campers, that means getting back to friends they may not have seen since summer. For new campers, it means two days to meet the people who might be the reason they want to come back.
The We Love Camp Rundown

Check-in: Friday, February 12 between 6:00–7:00 PM
Please eat dinner before you arrive! We’ll take it from there.
Check-out: Sunday, February 14 between 2:30–3:30 PM
Closing Ceremony: Sunday, February 14 at 2:00pm

What Kids Do at We Love Camp Weekend
We Love Camp Weekend has plenty of time for the things kids already love about Immokalee, or get to try for the first time.
Campers can zipline, canoe or kayak on Lake Brooklyn, shoot archery, spend time with their cabin, and choose from activities happening around camp. We’ll come together for big camp games and evening programs, too.
Valentine’s Day gives the weekend its theme. The rest is two days of being outside, trying things, and having fun with other kids.
What If My Kid Has Never Been to Camp?
They won’t be the only one.
Some kids arrive excited to see friends they already know. Others arrive at YMCA Camp Immokalee without knowing a single person. Our counselors help bring those kids together, get everyone comfortable in their cabin, and make sure being new doesn’t mean being on the outside.
And if this is your family’s first overnight camp experience, two nights can be a pretty great place to start.
Campers stay in cabins with other kids around their age and counselors who live in the cabin with them throughout the weekend. Cabins have electricity, bathrooms, and showers, and campers sleep in bunk beds.
Cabin requests are welcome, but they aren’t required. Plenty of kids come without knowing anyone in their cabin.
Campers spend most of the weekend with their cabin counselors. They’re the people eating meals with them, helping them navigate friendships and cabin life, joining them throughout the day, and noticing when something doesn’t seem quite right.
Our staff are screened and trained before working with campers, and year-round YMCA Camp Immokalee leadership is on site throughout the weekend.
A nurse is on site throughout We Love Camp Weekend to handle medications, illness, injuries, and the health needs that come up while kids are here.
You’ll provide health information and medication instructions before camp. If something happens that you need to know about, we’ll call.
We know it can feel a little strange to go from knowing what your kid is doing all day to… not.
You won’t hear directly from your camper during the weekend, but you can always reach us. And if something comes up that we need your help with, we’ll reach out to you.
Otherwise, let them have their weekend. We’ll take good care of them, and they’ll have plenty to tell you about on the ride home.
They might! Missing home is a pretty normal part of being away from it.
Our counselors are good at helping kids through those moments. Sometimes they need something to do, someone to sit with, or a reminder that breakfast is pancakes and tomorrow they get to go canoeing. Sometimes they just need to be a little sad for a minute.
Most kids work through it and get right back to their weekend. If your camper needs more support than we can give them without you, we’ll call.
Yep. We Love Camp Weekend is tech-free for campers.
Phones and smartwatches stay home so kids can be where they are, with the people they’re with. Campers don’t need a phone to reach a parent if something comes up, and parents can always reach our team.
E-readers and digital cameras are welcome as long as they aren’t being used to access the internet or communicate.
Teen Leaders at We Love Camp Weekend
High school students don’t have to be done with We Love Camp Weekend. They just experience it a little differently.
Teen Leaders are 10th–12th graders who are starting to take on real responsibility at camp while still getting to spend a weekend at a place they love. They work alongside our staff, help make the weekend happen for younger campers, and get some practice being the person other kids look to.
There are two ways to be a Teen Leader at We Love Camp Weekend:
Pathmakers | 10th Grade
Pathmakers are figuring out what leadership at camp actually looks like. They help with programs, take on projects around camp, and start learning how much happens behind the scenes to make a weekend great.
They’re still here to have fun and be with their friends. We’re just asking a little more of them while they do it.
CITs | 11th–12th Grade
CIT stands for Counselor in Training, so this is where things start looking a little more like being on staff.
CITs work alongside counselors and spend more time with younger campers. They help with activities, cabin life, and the thousand little things that happen during a camp day while learning how to be someone younger campers can count on.
They’re not staff yet. That’s the point. This is where they get to practice.
