The Future of YMCA Camp Immokalee
We love this place.
Campers have been growing up at YMCA Camp Immokalee since 1909, and we take seriously what it means to care for a place that has meant so much to so many people.
That means taking care of what we have now and thinking carefully about what comes next. We want better spaces for the kids who are already here, room to welcome more when we can, and a camp that keeps getting better without losing the things that make Immokalee feel like Immokalee.
We have big ideas for the future. We also have cabins that need love, a bathroom we’d really like to renovate, and some practical projects that would make camp work better every single day.
Here’s what we’re working toward over the next few years.
More Room Around the Table
Our Dining Hall is one of the places where camp becomes camp. It’s also only so big.
We’re working toward a large multipurpose space nearby that would allow us to feed more campers together instead of adding more meal shifts. It would also give us something we badly need during a Florida summer: a large covered space where camp can keep going when the weather doesn’t cooperate.
One building solves two very real problems and gives us room to grow without losing one of the best parts of camp, being together.
More Kids Who Know How to Swim
We’re planning a new pool pavilion that will help us expand swim lessons for kids and families throughout the Lake Region.
We live in a community surrounded by water. Kids here should know how to swim, and Immokalee has the people, the pool, and the opportunity to be part of making that happen.
The pavilion will make our pool better. What we’ll be able to do with it matters even more.
Taking Care of What We Have
Not every important project needs a rendering.
We’ll keep improving our cabins, tackle a bathroom renovation, and continue investing in the spaces campers already use every day.
That’s not the stuff that usually makes it onto a Master Plan cover. It’s still part of taking good care of camp.
And as we think about adding new things, we want to be just as serious about caring for the things that are already here.
Thinking Beyond the Next Project
Our Master Plan looks further ahead than the projects we’re working toward today. It gives us a way to think about how the property can grow over time, from the spaces where campers live and play to the ways we use Lake Brooklyn and the rest of our camp.
We want to take good care of what we have, make thoughtful improvements when they’re needed, and keep asking what would make this place even better for the kids who will call it home next.
We’ve been doing that since 1909. We plan to keep doing it for a very long time.
