Day Camp Counselor
Spend your summer working at camp. Go home at night.
As a Day Camp Counselor at YMCA Camp Immokalee, you’ll have your own group of campers, lead activities, handle the kid stuff that comes up, and make camp really fun to be at.
And this isn’t a day camp operating out of a school or community center. You’re working right in the middle of an overnight camp, with the lake, pool, adventure course, archery ranges, trails, staff, traditions, and support that come with it.
16+ | $16/hour | Around 30 hours/week | Meals included

What You’ll Actually Do
You’ll be responsible for one group of campers. You’ll get to know them, move through the day with them, manage behaviors when they come up, and notice when somebody needs a little more from you.
You’ll lead activities, too. Depending on your training, interests, and schedule, you might be at the pool, teaching archery, leading sports and games, or somewhere else around camp.
Sometimes that means teaching something you know really well. Sometimes it means changing the plan because your campers need something different. Sometimes it just means joining in and making whatever they’re doing more fun.
Your kids are your job. Everything else is how you spend the day together.

Training
You don’t need camp experience. You do need to come to training.
For 2027, Day Camp staff training is:
May 15: 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
May 25: 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
May 26–30: 8:00 AM–8:00 PM* Full Staff Training, with both Day Camp and Overnight staff.
You’ll learn how we work with kids, manage behavior, keep campers safe, lead activities, and use the systems you’ll rely on once summer starts.
And although Day Camp staff normally go home at the end of the day, you can stay at camp with us during full Staff Training. You don’t have to, but if you want the full experience, stay. You’ll get more time with the people you’re going to spend the summer with and get to know Camp Immokalee as a whole before campers arrive.
Activities + Certifications
Before summer, you’ll tell us which activities you’re interested in. Our Day Camp Director takes everyone’s preferences, training, certifications, and what we need each day and makes it work.
Camp provides some optional certifications, and additional training can increase your pay:
| Certification | Additional Pay |
|---|---|
| Lifeguard | +$50/week |
| Adventure Course* | +$50/week |
| Shooting Sports* | +$50/week |
They stack.
You don’t need to know now exactly where you want to spend your summer. Tell us what you’re interested in, and we’ll figure out the rest during training.
*Adventure Course and Shooting Sports certifications require staff to be 18+
Hours + Schedule
Day Camp runs Monday through Friday. Campers arrive in the morning and go home each afternoon, with extended care available before and after the main camp day. That means staff shifts can fall anywhere between 6:45 AM and 6:15 PM.
Most Day Camp Counselors work around 30 hours a week, although some weeks may be a little more or less. Before summer, you’ll give us your availability, and our Day Camp Director builds the staff schedule from there.
If you’re under 18, you’ll either be scheduled for a four-hour shift or get a 30-minute break every four hours.
This is not a live-at-camp job. You come to Camp Immokalee for your shift and head home when you’re done.
Interested?
You don’t need to fill out the entire YMCA application just to ask us a question.
Tell us you’re interested, and someone from our camp team will text you within a couple of days. You can ask about the job, tell us what your summer looks like, or figure out whether Day Camp might be right for you.
