International Staff at YMCA Camp Immokalee

Camp Immokalee is a summer home not just for campers from all around the U.S., but for staff members from across the globe. Our international staff program brings in young adults who are excited to share their culture, learn about American camp traditions, and help create the unforgettable experiences that make Camp Immokalee so special. Whether you’re considering joining us as an international staff member or you’re a camp family interested in supporting this program, we’re thrilled to welcome you into the Camp Immokalee family.

Why Work at Camp Immokalee?

A World of Adventure in Sunny Florida

Nestled in the heart of Florida’s Lake Region, Camp Immokalee offers a unique blend of classic camp activities and access to some of the best adventures Florida has to offer. Here’s why Immokalee is a dream location for international staff:

  • Close to Major Attractions: Spend your days off exploring nearby wonders—just an hour from gorgeous beaches, rivers, and natural springs; an hour from historic St. Augustine; and two hours from world-famous attractions like Disney World and Universal Studios.
    • Camp does not have transportation for these trips, but we have incredible staff members who often go out of their way to help international staff.
  • Accessible and Convenient: We’re only two hours from Orlando International Airport (MCO), a major hub for international travel, and we provide airport pickup so your journey to camp is seamless.
  • Warm, Welcoming Culture: Camp Immokalee is known for its family atmosphere, where everyone is a part of the experience. We pride ourselves on creating an inclusive, welcoming environment where you can make friends from all over the world, try new things, and gain meaningful work experience.

For Families: Be Part of the Cultural Exchange

Our international staff program isn’t just about bringing in great people to work at camp; it’s a cultural exchange that enriches the experience for everyone involved. This summer, we’re inviting Camp Immokalee families to join in the exchange and help us make our international staff feel right at home. Here’s how:

Host an Excursion

We’d love for our international staff to experience all that Florida has to offer, and you can help! Families can set up outings for international staff—think a local baseball game, a trip to the zoo, or a family barbecue. If your family plans an outing that international staff would like to join, you’ll handle transportation, cover any entrance fees, and ensure everyone gets back to camp on time.

Some popular ideas include:

  • Jumbo Shrimp Baseball Game – Give them a taste of American sports culture!
  • A Day at the Zoo – Share Florida’s wildlife and natural beauty.
  • Universal Studios or Disney Trip – For a big adventure during a day off.
  • Family Reunions or Holiday Celebrations – Show them the warmth of family traditions in your home.

If your family is interested in hosting an excursion, fill out our excursion form!

Fill the Drawers Campaign

We’re also launching a new “Fill the Drawers” campaign! Each international staff member will receive a set of plastic drawers for their stay at camp, and we’re inviting families to fill them with “American goodies” and essentials. Think Fourth of July gear, favorite snacks, and any camp essentials they might not have been able to bring on a plane.

  • What to Include: Fun American snacks, camp essentials, small comforts of home, and even quirky items like patriotic socks or a pair of Crocs!
  • How to Participate: We’ll send out a list of items along with each staff member’s size and preferences to help you personalize their drawer. If interested, simply let us know and we’ll arrange a time for you to drop off or pick up the drawers.

This simple gesture goes a long way in making our international staff feel welcomed and connected to our camp community.
